Camp Staff Testimonials

Camp Cherokee was the camp I wanted to work at because it was the Camp I grew up going to—first for Family Camp I then for Kids Camps. Through the years at Camp Cherokee I couldn’t help but admire the staff as they were exceptional role models reflecting the love of God in all they did. From the impactful experiences and friendships I gained there, I knew I wanted to work there when I got older. It’s a special place like no other, a place I always looked forward to going back to. You just feel God’s presence there.
I have no doubt in my mind that those who have a desire to work at Camp and want to draw nearer to God will have that experience as I did. Working as staff there also creates bonds with others you won’t find anywhere else as most are like minded and truly understand the mission of the camp ministry. I believe from a combination of working as a team with fellow staff, having to think on my feet and leading out in some departments, to list a few, has helped shape me into the person I am today and without a doubt has strengthened my walk with God.

In a way, Cherokee has always been in my blood. I grew up going to camp, and I looked up to the counselors and staff when I was young. I was excited when I became old enough to become staff myself.
Being a staff at Cherokee isn’t easy. I was juggling more responsibilities than I knew what to do with, but I have never been so close to God. There comes a point when you know that you can’t go on in your own strength that you learn what it’s like to truly rely on God’s strength.
